Portland Campaign Launch Event

At our recent event in Portland on Thursday, August 8th, we officially launched the ‘Don’t Can’t: Run to the Front’ Campaign, marking a significant milestone in our journey. The decision to kick off the campaign in Portland was deeply personal, as it is the hometown of one of our two dedicated runners, Tyler Chay. Tyler, along with fellow runner and wife Nikki, both met at Oregon State University where they connected as student-athletes. After graduation, they continued to reside in the Portland area, further cementing their ties to the community. Tyler’s family has deep roots in the city of West Linn, where they own a restaurant and cider house in the historic downtown area of Willamette, making it the perfect location for this special event.

The event, hosted by Tyler’s family, the Chays, was a memorable evening for everyone. Family and friends gathered to witness the unveiling of the campaign's website and materials, providing them with an in-depth understanding of Nikki and Tyler’s mission and objectives. For Tyler, this moment was especially meaningful as it allowed the closest people in his life—friends, family, his wrestling community, and former school community—to participate in and support the largest project he has undertaken.

The evening was further enriched by the presence of Rodney Williams, whose recent completion of the 100-mile ‘Hood Hundred’ race was supported by Nikki and Tyler the week prior. His ultra-marathon experience and enduring friendship have inspired the couple to aim for even greater challenges. The celebration at Willamette Ale & Cider House was a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community, and the couple was thrilled to see their efforts recognized on the front page of the West Linn Tidings. As they prepare to embark on their run in Ukraine, Nikki and Tyler are filled with gratitude for the unwavering support of their community and are eager to tackle the next chapter of their journey.

A special thanks to the Chay family, the ale house and the entire West Linn community.
